I always use a cage, and the one I had was rusted. This was easy to install and was very comfortable. The only complaint I have is that I have only had it for 1-2 months and after looking closely I can see small specks of rust beginning to form.
It's probably fair to note that I don't wipe the cage down after playing, and that if there is moisture on there, it stays until it drys. Most of the time sitting in my bag. However, I don't think I've ever heard of having to wipe a cage after playing and I don't really want to make the effort to start doing so.
